"...our Father, Mother God..."The Christian Science church stands unique on this foundation The proposition of the science of Christianity is:
These are all aspects of the holy sacrament of God being with us, or Christian Science being understood. With these, the sacrament unfolds as Truth (reality) being acknowledged. If elements of our sacrament are missing, such as generosity, humanity, honestly, and so on, there is something spiritually lacking in our experience and life is correspondingly emptier than it could be.
Welcome to my exploration studio of the"the Mother Church of Christ Scientist"
|
The term Mother Church appears to have been first used in obtaining the charter of the first Christian Science church in 1879, built on a flood of healing that resulted from Mary Baker Eddy's early work on the pulpit. The term Mother Church appears to be closely linked to the reinstitution of the process of Christ healing as had been previously demonstrated by the Master, the historic 'Mother' of the scientific process of divine healing. The early identification of the Christian Science church as "The Mother Church" may also have a still deeper root, referring to God as the 'Mother' of us all, as she states in her "spiritual sense of the Lord's Prayer," expanding the sense of "Our Father..." to "Our Father-Mother God..." The mothering principle the unfolds the divine promise into fruition appeared to be important to her, as this promise was being fulfilled in healing. For an exploration of the mother-principle, I have included a synopsis of a recent (2009) movie, that beautifully explores the power of the mother principle at the personal level.
Over the years of building the Mother Church from an idea to the unfolding manifestation of it under its legal title "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston Massachusetts" Mary Baker Eddy fulfilled many identifying functions as: The Author of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures; its universal "Pastor Emeritus;" and as "President of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College." And still, she she did more. She created for the Mother Church a vast pedagogical infrastructure, built of the biblical city-foursquare (Revelation 21). She frequently used the term "divine Science" in conjunction with the universal context of spiritual science.
All major aspects of her work are incorporated into this foursquare infrastructure, as explored in the studies below:
And there is one more major aspect worth noting, namely the triangular shape of the plot on which the edifices of Mother Church were built and its significance related to the three synonyms for God: Love, Truth, and Soul. See the study below: Are we willing to think of the world in these terms? Christian Science is not a dweller apart, but a divine revelation that brings spiritual reality into our daily living, uplifting our world and civilization at large. The Nation then becomes a reflection of Soul, Science the unfolding of Truth, Economics the manifest of Love, and Empire a dark emptiness. |
