600 Historic Bible Lessons

comprising 11 years of Christian Science Bible lessons (1898-1909)

The Christian Bible can been looked upon as a chronicle of the spiritual development of mankind, and it failures, within the context of Christianity. Mary Baker Eddy has used this as a foundation to build her own work upon. She also created a type of religious sermon, that unlike any other sermon throughout history, is constructed in the form of a dialog between the historic chronicle represented by the Bible, on one hand, and the textbook of her discovery of the Science of the Christ principles, on the other hand. This dialog combines two major dimensions. Finally, a third dimension has been added in recent years with the help of computer technology that superimposes upon this dialog some of the basic elements of Mary Baker Eddy's structure for scientific and spiritual development. A collection of six hundred of the early Bible lessons that were developed during Mary Baker Eddy's time have been prepared with the scientific foundation added. This makes them probably the most unique literary blend for focusing on scientific and spiritual development, that can be found in the world today.

The historic significance of this series of Bible lessons is, that the period in which they were created was the peak period of Christian Science healing and the final period of the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, who had created both the idea, and the format, of these standardized Bible lessons. These types of lessons continue to constitute the Sunday service in Christian Science churches throughout the world. They speak as an impersonal pastor from a standpoint of science.

The following is a list of the 26 standard topics that are repeated twice a year. This offer contains 23 sets of 26 Bible lessons each, the first standardized Bible lessons that were ever created, which were prepared for the Christian Science church and constituted its Sunday sermon during the years 1898-1909. All 23 sets (1898-1909) are available for downloading from this web site for an honorary contribution of $7.00 per set ($10.00 Canadian), as specified under down-loading.

A software tool had been developed while the research was going on, exploring Mary Baker Eddy's structure for scientific development, based on the biblical city foursquare (Revelation 21). The software tool automatically relates the most vital features of the development structure to the texts of the Bible Lessons that Mary Baker Eddy had set up to comprise the sermon in her church. These formalized lessons were created to be read by two designated readers, one for reading citations from the Bible, and the other for reading corellative passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The linkage is a correlation between the 16 element positions of the foursquare matrix that Mary Baker Eddy has outlined, and the 16 chapters of the Christian Science textbook which directly relate to this matrix. The interrelationships brings the vast range of the development structure dynamically into context with the selected lesson texts.

Twenty-three sets of Bible lessons have been specifically prepared to display during the reading of the texts all the relevant reference materials that bring together the various scientific aspects that pertain to the citation texts. The so prepared sets of Bible lessons had been originally created for the years 1898 to 1909. While Mary Baker Eddy may not have been officially involved in creating these lessons, one must assume that she was involved to some extend, because one can sense the directing influence of her pioneering understanding.

As one would expect, the Bible Lesson structure is itself directly related to her foursquare matrix structure for scientific and spiritual development. However, whatever needs to be said about it is already included in the nine volume series, and has been presented in Volume 3. The Bible lessons add a great scope of utility to the process of exploration, but they do not add a separate fundamental aspect for exploration for which a sperate volume would be required. The nine volumes are complete in design, but the development process that they are designed to facilitate is never complete. The Bible lessons are an aspect of this boundless development or unfolding.
